REGINA -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders defence had Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Zach Collaros under siege for much of the night. Hyun-jin Ryu Jersey . The Riders sacked the first-year Hamilton starter 10 times and limited the Tiger-Cats to less than 200 yards total offence in a convincing 31-10 victory on Sunday at Mosaic Stadium. "Our defence played lights out," said Riders quarterback Darian Durant, who tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the game. "Give them the lead and they can really tee off on the opposing team." Ricky Foley led the Riders defence with six tackles and three sacks. John Chick and Derek Walker each had two sacks, and the defending Grey Cup champions looked dominant in front of 19,285 spectators that braved wet and windy weather. "It seemed like a lot of things we working for us," Chick said. "You see the chemistry of the guys today. A bunch of us have a full season under our belts working together and the new guys are coming along. To see everyone working together was great." The poor weather didnt slow the Riders offence. Saskatchewan scored on three of its first four possessions and enjoyed a 24-1 lead at halftime. The Riders racked up 196 yards of offence in the first half compared to just 96 yards from Hamilton. First-year Riders running back Anthony Allen rushed for 158 yards and scored two touchdowns in his first CFL start. Durant connected with eight different receivers on the day and threw touchdown strikes to Allen and fellow newcomer Brett Swain. "We live out here," Durant said when asked how well the offence moved the ball despite the lousy weather. "It has been raining for a month and weve been practising in it day in and day out. We prepared ourselves for this and we did a great job of not letting (the weather) be a factor." Tiger-Cats head coach Kent Austin didnt use the weather as an excuse for his teams poor debut, although it didnt help in its bid for a come-from-behind victory on the road. "I saw not a very good football team today," Austin said. "We have to make a great improvement in a lot of areas right now. I have to get our guys more discipline. Our penalty situation is ridiculous right now. "It was a monsoon out there, and the wind a Im not making excuses for (Collaros). It was tough conditions to play in. Their pressure just compounded things." Saskatchewan had Collaros on the run early. Walkers first sack snuffed Hamiltons opening offensive drive, and on their second possession, it was a sack by linebacker Sam Hurl that led to punter Justin Medlock conceding a safety. A Collaros fumble and a snap that sailed over Medlocks head on a punt attempt just added to Hamiltons woes in the first half. Luke Tasker scored Hamiltons lone touchdown on a 10-yard pass from Collaros. "Im not angry at the team," said Austin, whose club was penalized 17 times for 148 yards. "Its about getting better. This game means something only if we learn to get better from it. Other than that, it has no meaning. We have to limit our mistakes and learn how to get better." Saskatchewan will visit the Toronto Argonauts (1-0) in Week 2. Hamilton, meanwhile will travel to Edmonton to take on the Eskimos (1-0). Austin Barnes Dodgers Jersey . Thaddeus Young scored seven of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, Evan Turner added 22 points, and the 76ers hung on for their first road win since Nov. 1, beating the depleted Los Angeles Lakers 111-104 on Sunday night.SOCHI, Russia -- Canadian skip Jennifer Jones won Olympic gold Thursday, defeating Sweden 6-3 to complete her curling trophy case with an unbeaten run on the sports biggest stage. A steal of two in the ninth sealed the win over Swedish skip Margaretha Sigfridsson, who throws lead stones but calls the shots as skip. Jones has now added Olympic gold to the world championship she won in 2008 as well as four Canadian crowns. In the process, she has matched Canadian skip Kevin Martins feat of winning the Olympic crown with a perfect record. Its Canadas second womens curling gold. The late Sandra Schmirler won the first in Nagano, Japan, in 1998. Britains Eve Muirhead, the 2013 world champion, defeated Switzerlands Mirjam Ott 6-5 for the bronze medal earlier in the day. Team Canada coach Mike Babcock was in the stands to witness the Canadian win, as were several members of the Swedish hockey team. No Canada womens team has even won a world championship since Jones rink, without third Kaitlyn Lawes, claimed the crown in 2008. Jones beat Sigfridssons route in the round-robin en route to that title. Jones, Lawes, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn McEwen dispatched Muirhead in the semifinal after going 9-0 in the round-robin. Canada downed Sweden 9-3 on the second day of the Olympic curling competition, with the Swedes shaking hands with two ends left. It was a tough start for Officer and Lawes, who thumped her broom in disgust at one point. Jones, who opened with hammer, had to take one in the first end after some aggressive curling by the Swedes had the Canadian skip holding last rock with three Swedish stones in the house. Jones hit and stuck for thhe single. Gary Sheffield Jersey. The Swedes tied it up, escaping with a single from a crowded house in the second. Lawes doubled off two Swedish rocks as the third was blanked. Canada capitalized in the fourth when Swedens Maria Prytz -- throwing fourth -- jammed on a double attempt with last rock and Jones drew for a deuce and a 3-1 lead. With Lawes and Officer struggling and Sweden holding hammer, Jones faced a house with three Swedish rocks counting as she threw her last stone. She hit and stuck, but leaving Sweden shot rock. Prytz tried to remove Canadian rocks for a big score but had to settle for two and a 3-3 tie. The sixth and seventh were blanked as the Swedes put rocks in the house and Canada cleaned them out. In the eighth, there was more action in the house. After freezes by Canada and Sweden, each team had a rock around the same distance from the button. Jones tried to draw for a possible two, happy to nudge the Swedish rock out of the way, but was short and Canada had to settle for one after a measurement. The Swedes went down 4-3 but high-fived because they had hammer. Jones nailed a pressure draw with her last rock of the ninth. That piled the pressure on Prytz, given the plethora of Canadian rocks in the house. The Swede wrecked her shot and Canada stole two. Prytz looked to the skies, as if wondering what she had to deserve such a fate. The Swedes have a rich history in curling at the Olympics, winning gold in 2006 and 2010 (via Anette Norberg) and bronze in 1998 (Elisabet Gustafson). Sigfridsson has lost four world championship finals: as third in 2002, lead in 2009 and as skip with her current team in 2012 and 2013. ' ' '
